• Keep Christmas trees, and other holiday decorations, 3ft away from heat sources like fireplaces and space heaters.
• Maintain a water source for live Christmas trees to prevent drying out. Dry trees are a major fire hazard according to Bixby, Oklahoma firefighters. 
• Pay attention to the manufacturer’s instructions for light strands. Make sure you’re using lights outdoors that are designated for outdoor use.  Avoid overloading circuits by plugging in too many light strands.
• Never walk away from the stove while cooking. 
• Keep candles at least 12 inches away from anything that burns.  Candle fires make up an average of 7,400 home fires each year.
• Have your fireplace inspected and cleaned by a professional before use.
