• Pay attention to the manufacturer’s instructions for light strands. Check to make sure your outdoor lights are designated for outdoor use. 

• Avoid overloading circuits by plugging in too many light strands.

• Never walk away from the stove while cooking and keep a fire extinguisher in your kitchen. 

• Keep candles at least 12 inches away from anything that burns.  Candle fires make up an average of 7,400 home fires each year.

• Have your fireplace inspected and cleaned by a professional before use.
